If you are a gourmet cook in the making then you know what cooking with wine can do for a meal. Cooking with wine adds that special something to a meal that spices cannot, enhancing flavors to some of your favorite recipes. Sure there are some wines that advertise as being made specifically for cooking but why not use a good wine that you drink? These wines have a tendency to deliver a less than favorable salty flavor with added spices and additional herbs added. This will not give you the flavor that is sought when using wine to cook with.

Shiraz - The History Of Shiraz Wine

Shiraz, known as syrah in France, Chile, Argentina and most parts of the United States, is a type of grape. This grape, used to make wine, has a deep purple color. Shiraz is a unique wine, and has one of the highest serving temperatures of them all, 65 degrees Fahrenheit.

The name Shiraz is taken from the city of Shiraz, Iran, where it is said that the process of wine making originated 7,000 years ago. According to some historic accounts, Guy De’Sterimberg brought Shiraz to southern France after visiting Iran during the crusades. Eventually, he became a hermit and created a vineyard on a hill near his home in the Rhone River Valley. This wine became known as the Hermitage.

Wine making has been practiced in one form or another for many thousands of years with pottery jars found in Persia (modern day Iran) dating as far back as 5,500 BC showing evidence of grapes use for winemaking. Additionally, jars from Jiahu in China dated to between 6000 and 7000 BC have also been discovered containing wine made from wild grapes.

However whether we are talking about ancient or modern wine production, a number of the same conditions apply and not dissimilar techniques are used as the chemistry of the humble grape is an eternal quality.
