1 Secret Of Goal Setting

You probably have read so many books about setting goals.
Me too.
One of thing that seems most of us have in common, that is setting goals in a fix amount of money. And that if we attain that sum of money, it will fulfill all our wishes.
Let’s make an example.
Say you have 5 goals that you want to achieve by the end of 2007.
You wrote down:
1/ Goal 1: Get out of dept, never use credit cards again.
2/ Goal 2: Learn Chinese in China
3/ Goal 3: Travel Europe
4/ Goal 4: Give my love ones nice gifts
5/ Goal 5: Get a new BMW with cash
Then you THINK : “Ok, if I have $100,000, I shall be able to do all these”
So your wrote down $100,000 in a big, bold, red ink on your paper.
You then make several copies. Stick one on the bathroom mirror so you can see it every morning.
Stick one on your desktop. One on the refrigerator…
4 weeks later…
You get a bit frustrated. The big, red number is still there. It’s you who doesn’t seem to get an inch closer to that NUMBER.
“It’s a crazy goal” ” It’s impossible” “There is no way you can make that much” You hear a creepy voice whispers those words in your head.
Another 8 weeks passed by…
You don’t see those numbers any more. You haven’t taken it down. Yet, your eyes don’t seem to see it. No excitement in your heart like when you first wrote down the goals. In fact, in your mind now, such goals are not existed.
YOU HAVE FAILED!
NOBODY KNOWS BUT YOU.
And that creepy voice comes in” I told you NOT to do the silly thing. It’s impossible. You can’t do that. How many times have you failed? Remember?”
End of our example.
But do you see what has happened?
I will tell you right away: NOTHING IS WRONG with the GOAL SETTING BUT THE FOCUS.
Yes, WRONG FOCUS.
You were focusing on the $100,000 NUMBER. You did not FOCUS on your TRUE GOALs.
In the other words, what you REALLY WANT is NOT the $ number.
By focusing on the number instead of your true goals, you forgot the vision, the excitement, the feeling that makes your heart sing. And that is the secret of attaining a goal. Because YOU ONLY GET WHAT YOU FEEL.
