Internet Marketing Tips - What Exactly Is Site Stealing?
Posted on February 9, 2008 - Filed Under Internet
Okay, it’s not what you think. Site stealing, in a literal sense, is illegal and will get you in a ton of trouble. Simply put, don’t do it. However, there has been a concept going around lately referred to as site stealing that has everybody all juiced up. The new marketers think they’re going to learn some underhanded tactic to steal another person’s site from them. This couldn’t be farther from the truth. Site stealing is simply a buzzword for something top marketers have been doing for many years. It just wasn’t called that. Well, this article is going to blow the whistle on what all this site stealing is all about so you don’t have to waste your money on something that is really nothing new.
The top marketers online, names like Mike Filsaime, Willie Crawford, John Reese and others, are always keeping their eyes open. They’re always looking to see what others are doing. Why? Because the top marketers are always trying to think of new and better ways to market their products and services. This includes the way they design their web sites all the way from the graphics to the sales copy. Well, when one marketer sees another marketer using a technique that appears to be bringing them more sales, the smart ones will take this idea and adapt it. In other words, they’ll use the idea but in a way that doesn’t make it outright theft.
For example, you might notice that almost all sites now have what are called opt in forms. These are forms where the potential customer enters in his name and address in order to get free information. In return, the marketer gets to pitch his products and services to these people in exchange for their information. Well, believe it or not, one person was the first person to do this. Other marketers simply saw what he was doing and incorporated the technique into their sales strategy. While all the opt in forms may look similar, you will notice that there are some design differences. In other words, the concept was “stolen” but used in a new or unique, or at the very least, a different way.
And that is really all site stealing is. It’s looking at what the competition is doing and adapting the main parts to your own web site. This can be something as simple as looking to see what keywords somebody is using to promote a product that is like your own. This is easy enough to do by just looking at the HTML source code of the web page. That is, in a sense, considered site stealing, though there is nothing illegal about it.
Yes, site stealing is getting a lot of buzz. And I give the marketer credit for coming up with such a compelling name for simply observing the competition, but trust me on this, you’re not going to learn any underhanded or illegal tricks in this book. Just look at what the top sites at Clickbank are doing and you’ll have all the ammunition you’ll need to create your own killer site that will be able to compete with the rest of them.
To YOUR Success,
