What You Need To Know To Work Effectively In The 21st Century

Ergonomics is the science of having your body work harmoniously with the environment. It is always important that your surrounding environment at work or home is safe and working efficiently for you.
The 21st century has brought us great technological advances. It enables individuals to work faster,provide information at the tip of your fingers, communicate with others 24/7 and faster than light anywhere in the world. These portable electronic devices are light weight , easy to transport and smaller in size.
The technological advances, while being necessary for most individuals and businesses to be in communication with clients or for personal use, can exacerbate certain preventable musculoskeletal injuries.
Learning to use these devices in a safe and efficient way is important for individuals. Simple easy to implement changes for your use of certain electronic equipment, is helpful to prevent certain musculoskeltal disorders such as: neck, shoulder, elbow, arm ,wrist, hand or back discomfort .
Most individuals are not aware of the posture to use to help to alleviate body discomfort. While working on a blackberry, palm pilot, laptop or other devices you need to stretch at least every 20 minutes and then resume your activity. Your head, chin and neck should be maintained as neutral as possible. Try to use a portable mouse when possible with equipment. Sit with back as straight as possible , prevent glare on your viewing screen, try to keep your distance to the equipment at least an arms length. It is important to take frequent breaks and range of motion your body. Close your eyes and them them relubricate. Give your body a chance to recover and recharge and then resume your activity. Many individuals get caught in what they are doing and stay at it much too long. These simple tips can help you perform more effectively and without discomfort to distract you from your life goals.
