Would You Tell Time From A Clock Blinking 12:00?

Posted on December 30, 2007 - Filed Under Computers and Technology

You are probably saying to yourself, “A VCR?? No one uses that old technology anymore!” You may be right, but I know a lot of people who don’t own a DVR or TiVo that will use a VCR to catch an episode of a show they know they are not going to be home for. This is also probably the most common technological problem and I want to put this out there as an example of what is to come for this blog. So let’s begin!

I am sure that anyone reading this has either thrown away the manual or has no clue where it is, so assuming that let’s try to solve this problem! So the clock is blinking 12:00 and you only have 15 minutes before you have to leave and you need to program that show because you won’t be home, let’s get this done. The clock on a VCR is usually set through a menu on the VCR.

  1. Make sure that the VCR is hooked up to the TV. We need this done so that we can see the VCR menu on the TV. If it is not hooked up then you are going to need to run A/V cables from the back of the VCR (Red, Yellow, White) to the A/V jack on your TV. Please note that you don’t need white and red so if you only see white or red, it is not a big deal. Also if there are multiple inputs on the TV, make sure that you know which one it is plugged in to.
  2. Turn on the TV and then turn on the VCR.
  3. Is there a menu button on the VCR remote? Good, now push it. Ah-ha, we seem to be getting closer than we though!
  4. Now you are going to look for something that says ‘Clock Settings’ or ‘Time Settings’ and then click the select/ok button on the remote.
  5. Inside this menu should be an option of ‘Set Clock’ or ‘Set the Time’ and that is what you are going to push.
  6. Most VCR’s let you use the numbers to type in the time and if not just use the up/down arrows as specified within the menu.

See how simple that was? Now you can program the show you want to watch and know that is going to record at the correct time. Problem solved!

Now if those menu’s do not exist, we are going to have to find the manual for your VCR. Follow this link to the User’s Manual Guide and look for the VCR that you have and download the manual. From there should be in the instructions on how to set the time on your VCR.

So that is what most of the posts are going to look like here, except this one was a bit easy, but I just wanted my readers to get a feel of what this is going to be like. This blog is going to be nothing without its readers so throw me some ideas and let me know what you think!
