Productivity Improves When You Learn How To Ask?
Posted on March 25, 2008 - Filed Under Business
If productivity is about doing something that is usually tied to a desired outcome, then how can you maximize productivity of your employees or even yourself? One simple, but often ignored productivity strategy is to ask.
Asking is the way we learn to increase our results. We learn by asking what path not to take for example if we are asking for directions. Thus by asking, we improve our productivity because we get to where we want to go quick and usually expending far less resources had we not simply asked.
How many times do we fail to ask? Possibly fears of self doubt keep us from asking for critical knowledge that is necessary for maximum productivity.
When we learn how to ask, we are essentially taking these 3 actions.
First, we ask because we want to aspire to that next level of productivity or performance. By asking, we have incredible opportunities from which to grow. Remember as a young child always asking a lot of questions? You were aspiring to grow and understand more of your world.
Second, asking is how we solidify our current knowledge or information. By asking, we have taken the time to ensure that our current understanding is solid so that we can accept new knowledge into our existing belief system or experiences. By asking a questions such as Do you understand or Does this make sense to you which is my personal favorite, you have solidifying your own reasoning process.
The final and third reason is that to ask is about gaining some new knowledge. Human beings are inquisitive creatures who want to know as much about their world as possible.
So when we ask, we literally:
- Aspire
- Solidify
- Knowledge
To maximize your productivity is summed up in this old Chinese proverb:
To know the road ahead, ask those coming back.
