A Wedding Destination - The Corolla Chapel On The Outer Banks

Posted on March 10, 2008 - Filed Under Business

A destination wedding is on the agenda for many young couples who want something unique on that special day. The Outer Banks of Currituck is a fabulous wedding destination location, particularly Corolla.

The Outer Banks of Currituck has two distinct areas. The first is the southern portion and the northern portion, sometimes called the Four-Wheel-Drive Area. Today, many people refer to the whole southern portion as Corolla when actually the name Corolla was originally used for a small village that was near the Corolla lighthouse.

Over the past twenty years, Corolla has grown quite rapidly, and it has become a top vacation destination on the East Coast of the United States. Rental properties and some small hotels sprouted up which brought with them all the amenities of a contemporary vacation destination: shopping centers, restaurants, movies, grocery stores, golf courses, attractions, recreational opportunities and, of course, the beach.

One of the attractions is the Corolla Chapel. This chapel has become a popular wedding location in recent years. Built in 1885, the chapel served the Corolla Community until 1958. It was not used again until 1987 when a new congregation was established.

To accommodate a growing attendance at this interdenominational church, 2002 saw the large addition to the original building. Because of the chapel’s historical significance, the interior of the new addition was designed to resemble the original structure including the installation of replica pews.

Because the chapel is quaint, historical and beautiful, many brides want to use it for their wedding. And what better to place to honeymoon than Corolla? With all the amenities and attractions on the Outer Banks of Currituck, the honeymoon will be as memorable as the wedding.
